Series 181, which is called "Kiha 181(Hyakuhachijuichi) in Japanese.
Its 500 hp engine is far more powerful than the series 82's.
Max speed is 120km/h.
At first the 181 was used for The Shinano Limited Express from Osaka or Nagoya to Nagano.
Thanks to its strong horsepower, engines were sometimes overheated and consequently they stalled.
